Outpatient Substance Abuse Services

Anixter Center Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Services, the first of its kind in Illinois, designed its services specifically for people with disabilities. Our program is staffed by professionals who are competent, knowledgeable and experienced regarding disabilities and substance use disorders.

Anixter Center offers intensive outpatient programs, including one in American Sign Language for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Services provided include:

  • Chemical dependency assessment
  • Group and individual counseling
  • Case management/follow-up
  • HIV/STD education/testing/counseling
  • Sober recreation/leisure-time activities
  • Independent living skill training
  • Aftercare planning/continuing recovery support
  • Drug/alcohol education
  • Disability awareness education
  • Relapse prevention
  • Recovery support
  • First priority for pregnant women

Funding for substance abuse treatment services is provided in whole or in part by the Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, and the Chicago Department of Public Health/Office of Substance Abuse Programs.

Over 20 years ago, Anixter Center recognized that persons with disabilities experienced substance abuse issues that could not be addressed with traditional treatment strategies. Best practices such as contingency management and motivational strategies, American Sign Lauguage and extended treatment were adapted and implemented to provide the most effective and comprehensive treatment possible for persons with disabilities and a substance use disorder.
