Community Resources and Support

Community Resources and Support (CRS) provides services to adults with developmental disabilities that help enrich the quality of their lives.

CRS has evolved to support the right of adults with developmental disabilities to have choices in how they live. Some individuals were seeking more options to fill their days and wanted to expand their horizons. Others needed varied therapeutic strategies to help them live, work and relate to the community around them. Access to vocational assistance provided a sense of well-being and belonging. All benefitted from increased social connections.

CRS services offered include:

  • Social and recreational activities
    • Social clubs promoting positive social skills and leadership development
    • Social events fostering independence, self-esteem, socialization and inclusion within the community
    • Physical fitness programs and Special Olympics
    • Culinary groups
    • Swimming
  • Expressive therapies
    • Expressive therapy groups such as art, dance/movement and music therapy
    • Opportunities to exhibit artwork and perform in concerts, talent shows and musical productions
  • Internal case management and service plan coordination
    • When someone joins our department, they meet with their internal case manager, called a Support Specialist. They spend some time getting to know one another, and during that time, the Support Specialist goes over the groups and outings with CRS staff. Together they create a weekly schedule.
    • Our schedules are in place for a trimester—15 weeks—which allows everyone enough time to go in depth into the topics and emphasis of each group, but also allows for changes when the new trimester begins. Flexibility is important. If something doesn’t feel right along the way, we are open to adapting the schedule until it does.
  • Counseling services and Behavioral supports
  • Vocational assistance and Volunteer opportunities
  • Transportation coordination
